desert flowers

today is friday, april second and it has been exactly one week since ross and i left california! its been a long hard week, and i have come out of it with aching knees, many sunburns, and more eagerness to get back on the road. we spent the last night at a hostel in phoenix, arizona, after a prolonged day of figuring out where to spend the night. it was absolutely the best decision we could have made. we pulled into to the sounds of 'waltzing matilda' being sung from the common room, and were quickly greeted by more than one friendly face. two guys, one from england, and one from san francisco, and a girl from australia, and also the manager i suppose you could call her, who has quite the lovely spunky personality. and the dog, a bulldog, who is so darn cute. there is also a cat named lucy (that is the name of ross and my cat!) the guy from san francisco, shane, made a bit of extra pasta for us for dinner which was delicious because we were still hungry after the dinner we prepared. riding ninety miles in a day can do that to a person.

SIDE NOTE! one bag of precooked whole grain wild rice plus one can of black bean soup = the most delicious/quickest/easiest/cheapest/healthiest meal you can ever make for 4.50!

ross and i have decided to stay another night at the hostel and take the day off from riding. the hostel is awesome and the city of phoenix has caught our attention so no need to bike away so quickly! we have made it through the first week, spending minimal funds, and riding on schedule for our time frame, whatever little schedule we may have, and its time to do some city exploring!

i will update some pictures of the past week shortly because pictures are so stimulating and much more enticing than words, i know, i know.
